MPAF33 – Tom Conner on the Lessons from the Drewberry Protection Insurance Survey 2015

In a research survey, you’d usually associate with major provider companies, Drewberry Insurance’s Protection survey lifts the lid on what consumers think of life insurance, critical illness and income protection.

While the results aren’t surprising they do remind us that we must renew our efforts to push out positive messages.

Listen to Tom explain why Drewberry set up the survey, what the sample was and the headline results.

Hear about the three top reasons consumers don’t consider protection insurance. Those three primary reasons are unchanged in almost twenty years and highlight more than ever before, the need for face to face financial advice.

That’s all right here in episode 33 of the Marketing Protection and Finance Podcast.

Who is Tom Connor

Tom is a director at Drewberry Insurance.

He was an adviser for 5 years but now spends most of his time running the business and managing a team of 15 other advisers.

Before that he worked in the City after graduating with a master’s degree in finance from Cambridge University.

Tom believes passionately in educating the wider public about the need for protection and income protection, in particular.

Outside of work Tom can often be found at the rugby watching England or the Harlequins and has the goal of skiing on every continent of the world, having already ticked three off the list

MPAF32 – Richard Taylor on why Content Marketing is Essential for Financial Services Businesses

You might have heard traditional marketing referred to as “interruption marketing”.

You might be watching a TV programme and just as the action gets exciting the ad break kicks in – thus interrupting your enjoyment of the show. Banner adverts on websites also count as interruptions.

Content marketing is different. It’s about producing helpful stuff, possibly blogs, audios, videos, infographics and other material that people actually look for.

Both interruption marketing and content marketing aim to generate sales but the latter is a consequence of the digital world where potential customers go looking for answers.

My guest today is a content marketing champion having worked with many financial services businesses helping them to develop content marketing strategies.

Hear Richard’s advice on how to develop a content marketing strategy. Listen how you can create customer personas, listen to their needs and then produce content that could attract them to do business with you.

That’s all right here in episode 32 of the Marketing Protection and Finance Podcast.

Who is Richard Taylor

Richard Taylor is an independent digital marketing consultant, specialising in content and marketing automation and social media.

I've worked with Richard for many years including digital and content projects during my time as Marketing Director at Bright Grey.  He has been partly responsible for my continuing interest in content marketing and social media.

A little-known fact about Richard is that he used to make windsurfers and is now a keen sea kayaker.

LinkedIn is more than just an on online CV.

Offering a publishing platform, research tools and discussion groups, LinkedIn is effectively a global virtual networking event.

And yet many people still treat it just as a showcase for a brief summary of their career rather than using it as a research tool to find clients and to attract new customers to their businesses.

My guest today has become successful and well-known training financial professionals about the benefits of LinkedIn.

He’s also set up his own online financial services community called IFA Life and is a passionate champion of social media and business development ideas.

Hear how you can fine tune your LinkedIn profile to boost your position in search so that potential clients can find you. Listen to Phil’s tips on how to use LinkedIn to identify potential customers and approach them for a positive response.

That’s all right here in episode 31 of the Marketing Protection and Finance Podcast.

  • ·         building Community around online brands

The story of how he created his social networking site reveals behind-the-scenes insights into how to make Social Media really work - one that prompts organisations to radically rethink their approach to using LinkedIn and online networking.

Phil specialises in working with leaders, visible experts, sales teams, regulated industries and companies that struggle to get meaningful results from Social Media. Many are shocked when he reveals how many sales opportunities they’ve missed by ‘tinkering around the edges’ with LinkedIn.
